Christine Carey is a worship leader and singer-songwriter raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Over the years she has grown in many facets of the music, and performance world. Christine earned her Bachelor’s in Contemporary Music at Eastern University and her Master’s in Contemporary Vocal Pedagogy from Shenandoah Conservatory. She has studied voice with many teachers including Dr. Karla Scott, Dr. Kathryn Green, Alison Crockette, Suzanne Spencer and Edire Means Weekly. She has spent years developing her craft in a variety of styles such as rock, blues, jazz, musical theater, and folk. The music she creates today can be described as an acoustic, blues, folk-based rock with notes of jazz influence.
Alongside voice, she has also studied guitar under Dia Miyazaki, and classical piano under John Silva, Joseph Buglio, and Erikson Rojas. Another vital influence to her studies as a musician was Grammy Award-winning producer, Steven Ford. She studied and worked with him throughout her four years at Eastern University, learning and growing in her understanding of music theory, songwriting, and faith.
Throughout her life she has not only studied as a solo performer, but she has worked in numerous ensembles such as her home church worship band, Eastern University’s select choir Turning Point, the award-winning Chamber Choir of The Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush, Eastern University’s Wind ensemble, the Eastern University choir, Angles of Harmony Gospel choir, and the Eastern University Jazz ensemble where she has been featured as a vocalist. Currently she works as the Worship leader at Faith Community Church, helping to nurture and guide the worship team. During her high school years, she was awarded the opportunity to sing an improvisation solo in the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts among the Philadelphia All City Choir. During her junior year of college, she was a featured performer in Eastern University’s Let Our Voices Rise: A Crescendo of Resilience.
While studying performance etiquette, she believed it vital for a well-rounded musician to learn about the technical side of studio production and live performance. For two and a half years she worked in her school’s theater department running sound, acting as a stagehand, setting and adjusting lights for performances, and even led as the Student Technical Director. During her junior year, she decided to transition to a job within her school’s music department to deepen her studies in sound and live recording. While serving in this position, she led as the head assistant to the Music and Dance Technical director, acting as the designated assistant stage manager for shows. The other aspect of her job was learning to mix and record live audio due to the Covid-19 pandemic. With her boss, she learned about recording others, and also had the opportunity to work as a studio singer for a student’s Senior Recital recording choral Tracks. After college, she continued to work at Eastern as the Assistant to the Music and Dance Technical Director where she worked as the stage manager for the music and dance departments as well as a vocal coach for the Chapel Worship Team.
